Obtaining genital wart treatment is an easier process than ever before, as medical procedures have advanced to meet the growing incidences of the disease. Doctors have a number of therapeutic methods that they can use to remove warts and stop them from spreading to others. Given the contagious nature of the virus that causes the condition, these treatments are a high priority.

How they are contracted

The infection that causes these growths is directly related to the human papillomavirus, more commonly known as HPV. The condition itself is known in medical circles as condyloma acuminate, and is often referred to as venereal warts, since it is a sexually transmitted disorder. Its rapid ability to spread from even the simplest of sexual contact makes it one of the most contagious of all venereal diseases.

Recognizing the symptoms of this condition is important for knowing when treatments must be sought. Generally, the presence of these warts is signaled by itching, discomfort, and even discharge. Small bumps are a noticeable indicator, and larger growths can be present where several warts grow in unison. Any growth of this kind should be examined by a physician immediately.

Various treatments

Though there is no universally effective way to manage these warts, the medical community does have a variety of options for assisting patients with this condition. Medical procedures such as freezing the growth or removing it with a laser have demonstrated positive results in eliminating the outward signs of infection.

Using pills and creams

In most cases, creams and pills are used as a last resort, since they have been reported to produce various ill effects. They are, however, an alternative for those patients who are unable to utilize the standard surgical procedures that many doctors prefer.

Things to do at home

Though there are no recognized home cures for venereal warts, there are a number of things that every patient should do once the condition is diagnosed. Chief among these is taking the necessary precautions to protect a sexual partner from contracting the disorder. This is primarily accomplished through the use of condoms. In addition to limiting the contagion, it is important that the patient avoid creating trauma in the area of infection, especially harsh rubbing that could result in bleeding.

Studies have shown that even with effective treatments, about half of all patients end up with recurring venereal warts over the course of several years since the virus tends to linger in the skin and hair follicles. The emphasis should thus be on controlling the contagion and easing the suffering of those who have it.

The one thing that every patient must do when he believes that he might be suffering from any type of venereal disease is to seek immediate medical attention. When these types of conditions are discovered early, they can be more effectively treated and their spread can be contained when the patient seeks out appropriate genital wart treatment as soon as possible.
